Lyle J. “Mr. P” Pelke, age 80 of Colfax, died Friday, August 2, 2024 at Mayo Clinic Health Systems-Eau Clarie with his family by his side.

Lyle was born on May 3, 1944 in Durand. He was the son of Norbert and Ann (Risler) Pelke. Lyle grew up in Durand and graduated from Durand High School in 1962. After high school, Lyle married Janet Lindstrom on August 17, 1963 in Pepin. They then moved to Racine where he started his long career in plumbing. They moved to Ashland and back to Durand in 1973 where he opened Pelke Plumbing with his brothers. In 1984, Lyle sold the business to his brothers and then began his second career, owning and operating the Whitetail Golf Course in Colfax. During Lyle and Janet’s ownership of the golf course, they turned Whitetail from a 9 hole course to an 18 hole course that has remained in their family for 40 years. Lyle and Janet retired in 2007.

Lyle enjoyed going for walks everyday, golfing, mowing, making maple syrup, putzing around the house and spending winters in Florida. Lyle and Janet enjoyed being around people and maintained friendships throughout their life’s travels, some for over 60 years. He also liked supporting his children and grandchildren, campfires, playing pinochle and following family football.

Lyle is survived by his wife of 60 years, Janet; daughters, Kim (Mary Griffin) Pelke of Norfolk, VA; Paula (Todd) Kieffer of Byron, MN; Bobbie Jo Miller of Colfax and Tonya (Rod) Carey of Carmel, IN; nine grandchildren, Krislin (Kyle “Bubba”); Dominic; Mariah (Paul); Laura (Eric); Lewis (Whitney); Krisha (Justin); Luke (Hailey); Kennedi and Charlie; five great grandchildren, siblings, Jerry (Marlene); Herb (Rose), both of Durand; Darlene (Ted) Joas of Eau Clarie; sister-in-law, Jane (Dennis) Pelke of Alma; sisters-in-law, Karen (Sam) Schroeder; Diane Lindstrom and Julie Lindstrom; brother-in-law, Randy (Becky) Lindstrom;  nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law Scot Miller; brother, Glen Pelke; brothers-in-law, Gary and Steve Lindstrom.

Memorial Mass will be 11:00AM Friday, August 9, 2024 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Menomonie with Rev. John Mano officiating. Burial will be at a later date at the Lyster Cemetery in Nelson. Visitation will be from 10:00AM until the time of services at the church on Friday. A Celebration of Life will be held from 2:00PM to 6:00PM Friday, August 9, 2024 at the Whitetail Golf Course in Colfax.
