Ocille B. Steinmeyer

Ocille B. Steinmeyer

Ocille B. Steinmeyer age 94, of Menomonie, died Wednesday July 17, 2024, at The Neighbors of Dunn County, in Menomonie, surrounded by her family.

Ocille was born July 24, 1929, on the home farm in the Township of Weston, rural Elmwood. She was the daughter of Herman and Florence (White) Bauer. Ocille attended Nippersink Country School and attended Elmwood High School until her senior year. She graduated from Menomonie High School in 1947. Ocille worked for the local telephone company and enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially on the dance floor.

Ocille met the love of her life, Ernie, when helping his sister Arlene with school activities.  They dated and danced and danced and danced.  She married Ernest Steinmeyer May 4, 1949, in Elmwood. After marriage, they farmed on the Steinmeyer farm for many years and raised their family.  They were a joyous couple who worked hard and played hard with family and friends.  Family was central to life for Ocille.  Hosting family gatherings and going to grand and great grand children’s activities brought her happiness.

Ocille could be described faithful, loving and kind. A step into her presence was to be welcomed and accepted.  Her selflessness and hard-working nature would never fail to offer in a time of need, giving everything she had to support her community through the Moose Lodge, 4-H, Homemakers, grocery store demo jobs, Meals-on-wheels and especially volunteering in many ways with church to name a few.  Ocille knew how to have fun when dancing, camping, playing cards, fishing, and listening to old time music.  She loved to visit with everyone, spreading true joy to those she surrounded.  Her determination as she aged was relentless, with the support of family, Autumn Village staff, Mayo Clinic doctors and nurses, Dr. Rich, and the staff at Neighbors, she time and time again bounced back from health challenges.  She was a radiant woman and this will be remembered by everyone who knew her.  On any visit of her at Autumn Village, no matter how she felt that day, she would always be sure to walk you out and give a thankful wave for your visit as you left the parking lot.  It’s now our time to walk her out from her time on earth and be thankful for the blessing of Ocille in our lives.  We wave as we send her off to her eternal life in Gods kingdom.

Ocille is survived by her children, Roger (Nancy) of Menomonie, LaMont (Cindy) of Menomonie, Dennis (Kelly) of Menomonie, Shery (Howie) Clark of Woodbury, MN; daughter-in-law, Dawn Steinmeyer of Menomonie; 14 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren; one sister, Berneice (Jim Krings) Asher of Elmwood; a sister-in-law, Jean Bauer of Menomonie, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends which she loved.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ernie, her two sons, Mike and Terry, a daughter-in-law, Denise Cook, three brothers, Galen (Clara), Donald and Kenneth Bauer; four sisters, Evelyn Bauer in infancy, Marcella (Richard) Hyser, Leona (Andrew) Bauer, Theresa (Everett) Kistner; sister-in-law, Arlene (Orville) Johnson, and great granddaughter Hadley Steinmeyer.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday July 23, 2024, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Menomonie with Rev. John Mano officiating. Burial will be in the Grandview Cemetery, Township of Dunn, rural Menomonie.  Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Monday at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Menomonie and one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday

  9. Barb Shannon

So sorry for your loss, Ocille was a great lady. I always got a kick out of working with her at the township elections. For some reason she got it in her head that my name was Pat instead of Barb and she had a heck of a time, but eventually remembered it right!

  10. Bonnie Asher

The(Leohner) Asher family will always remember Ocille with fond memories. We grew up down the road from the Stienmeyer clan as kids and have been friends of the family ever since. She was such a nice lady and always had a smile or a hug when we saw her. Our condolences go out to the whole family.
