Douglas R Olson
Douglas R. Olson “Ole”, age 54 of Menomonie, died Sunday May 31, 2009 as a result of a motorcycle accident in rural Menomonie.
Douglas was born on March 17, 1955 in Plum City. He was the son of Neil and Marvel (Brookshaw) Olson and was raised on the family farm in rural Elmwood. Douglas graduated from the Elmwood High School in 1973. After high school, Douglas attended Chippewa Valley Technical College and graduated with a degree as Diesel Mechanic. While still in school, Douglas worked for Joel Olson at the Elmwood Implement in Elmwood. After College, he went to work as a diesel mechanic for MDMA-Menomonie, where he worked for over 30 years. Douglas also hauled milk for several people over the years and was always a phone call away from helping his son Josh haul milk.
Douglas enjoyed hunting, fishing (especially trout camp), down-hill skiing, riding his motorcycle, tractor pulling and spending time with his family and friends. He was highly regarded as a diesel mechanic, not only for his crafts, but the rapport he had with the farmers. Douglas had a helpful big heart, he was always willing to drop what he was doing to help friends and family with woodcutting, field work or whatever he was asked to do.
