Gwen S Peterson

Gwen S. Peterson, age 96 formerly from Highland Park, Illinois and most recently of Eau Claire, Wisconsin died April 22, 2024, at AdventHealth Durand in Durand Wisconsin.

Gwen S. Peterson, affectionately known by family and friends as MorMor, grew up in Chicago and graduated from Foreman High School. After High School she worked for Illinois Bell. In 1950 she met Robert K. Peterson. Gwen and Robert got married at Christ Lutheran Church (Chicago) in 1952. In 1956 they purchased their home in Highland Park, Illinois and moved there and raised their family. The Family attended Zion Lutheran church in Deerfield, Illinois. Gwen lived in Highland Park for 62 years.

After Robert’s passing, Gwen worked for Bengston and Company in sales and customer service until her retirement at age 75.

Primarily, Gwen loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was interested in cooking and quality food. In retirement Gwen had many fun outings with the Lake Forest (Illinois) Seniors, and enjoyed plays, museums, and fine restaurants. Gwen also enjoyed classic movies and a variety of music.

Gwen is survived by her children, David Peterson of Sister Bay, Wisconsin, Cherie (Greg) Soderberg of Prior Lake, Minnesota, Doug (Stephanie) Peterson of Mondovi, Wisconsin. 

Her grandchildren, Peter (Lauren) Soderberg of Prior Lake, Minnesota, Elin (Tristan) Guger of Sister Bay, Wisconsin, Erik (Laura) Soderberg of St. Petersburg, Florida, and Melissa (Sawyer) Lundby of Miles City, Montana. 

Her great grandchildren, Freyja Soderberg, Bjorn Guger, Augie Soderberg, Henry Soderberg, Axl Lundby, and baby girl Guger on the way.

Gwen is predeceased by her parents, Edwin and Ruth (Fischer) Schaefer. Her brother and sister-in-law Merwin (Gladys) Schaefer. Husband, Robert K. Peterson married 27 years until his death in 1979.

A private graveside service will take place at Ridgewood Memorial Park, in Des Plaines, Illinois at a future date.

The family appreciates the wonderful and loving care from Ken Rucker, MD, and the staff of AdventHealth Durand.

    We are deeply saddened to hear of Gwen's passing. Gwen was a joy to care for and we enjoyed many special moments together. I will say, Gwen inspired my plant era at the beginning of the pandemic. Prayers to family and loved ones.
