Clarence J. Berger age 87 of Eau Claire, formerly of Elk Mound, Died: Saturday May 30, 2009 at the Dove Health Care Center in Eau Claire

Clarence John Berger was born March 14, 1922, in the town of Maxville, Buffalo County in rural Durand, Wisconsin to Frank N. and Martha (Kohlman) Berger. He was raised in Buffalo County and moved with his parents to Dunn County in 1942. Clarence married Isabel K. Keeler on October 9, 1945, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Arkansaw. He farmed most of his life in Dunn and Pierce Counties. In 1961, Clarence and Isabel moved to the Elk Mound area and in 1963 bought a small farm. In addition to farming, Clarence worked as a truck driver and night foreman at Roberts Farmhouse Foods for 17 years until a work injury forced his retirement. He moved to the village of Elk Mound in 1983, and in 2002, he moved to Eau Claire.

Clarence was a member of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, the Elk Mound Lions Club, and lifetime member of the Knight of Columbus. He enjoyed reading, fishing, woodworking, craftwork and most of all telling stories to his children, grandchildren, and friends.

Clarence is survived by his wife and 17 children.

10 sons: Dan (Susun), Templeton, CA; John (Debi) Calmar, IA; Jerry (Renee), St. Croix Falls; Gary (Cindy), Horicon; Larry (Shannon), Elk Mound; Chuck (Sue), Marshfield; Ron (Sue), Chippewa Falls; Michael (Teri), Louisville, TN; Patrick (Sandra), Sheridan, IL; Jeff (Jenny), Eau Claire; 46 grandchildren, 6 step grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; 9 step great-grandchildren; one step great-great-grandchild; one sister, Marion Radle, New Richmond;

two brothers, James (Maxine) Menomonie; Loren (Roberta) Hartford; and many extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-father, Robert Berger; his sister, Florence Hurlbert; two brothers, Francis and Leonard; an infant granddaughter, Kristin Berger, an infant great-grandson, Alexander Wicklund.
