Richard (Dick) Zimmer Obituary

Richard Zimmer passed away at home March 1 at the age of 87.  He was born in Dunn County, WI to Evelyn (Brehm) and Reynold Zimmer.  He attended Elmwood schools and after graduation entered the U. S. Army and spent most of three years in Germany.  After returning in 1958, he married Marlene Kannel and they lived in Richfield, MN until 1963 when they moved to Plum City where he remained the rest of his life.

Dick spent most of his working career in the carpentry field.  After retirement he did handyman jobs for many local people.  During his lifetime he served on the St. John’s School Board, Plum City Village Board, was a member of the Plum City Fire Dept., American Legion, and was a charter member of the Plum City Lions Club.

He was a humble man who had many pastimes.  Among them were going to dirt track races, fishing, biking, card playing, doing Sudoku, jigsaw puzzles, and watching ball games at the village park.

Dick is survived by his wife of 65 years, son Jerry of Hager City, WI, daughter Christine (Bill) Piché of Maple Grove, MN, 7 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, a sister Lois (Don) Adank, sisters-in-law Karen (Wesley) Swanson, Velma Javoroski, and Rita Petty, son-in-law Kim Kozial, and other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Suzanne Kozial, brother Gary and brothers-in-law Denis Kannel, Don Javoroski, and Robert Petty and sister-in-law Donna Kannel.

In keeping with Dick’s wishes a Celebration of Life will be held on March 16 at Molly’s in Plum City  from 1:00PM to 4:00PM.

Consider memorials to Plum City Organizations.

Rhiel Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Durand, is serving the family.

I moved away decades ago, but Dick will always be my neighbor! He was a great guy, even-tempered, humble, and very patient with all the annoying little neighbor kids running around his house :-) Marlene, Jerry and Chris - you will be in our prayers!
