Susan E. Hayden, age 71 of Durand, died Monday, July 31, 2023 at Mayo Clinic Health Systems-Eau Claire with her family by her side.

Sue was born on March 4, 1952 in Durand. She was the daughter of William and Valetta “Peewee” (Norrish) Schauls. Sue grew up in Durand and graduated from Durand High School in 1970. During high school, Sue was a lifeguard and swimming lessons teacher for many years. After high school, Sue joined the family business, Schauls Gas, in Durand. A job she enjoyed until her retirement. Sue married Michael R. Hayden on May 13, 1972 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Durand.

Sue enjoyed spending time outdoors skiing, scuba diving, bowling, golfing and tending to her flower gardens. She was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s in Durand and served as a group leader in the PCCW, she was also a member of the Durand Women’s Group. Sue loved spending time with her family and friends and was her grandchildren’s biggest fan at their sporting and school events.

Sue is survived by her husband of 51 years, Michael, her daughters, Stacy (Kris) Biesterveld of Rock Falls and Jackie (fiancé Joe Larson) Peterson of Durand, grandchildren: Jacob (Kaitlyn), Joshua (Reice), Joe, Lauren, Drake, Drew, Brody, Addy, Riley and Zak, parents William and Valetta “Peewee” Schauls, sister Diane (Tim) Weber of Birchwood, brother Bob (Jane) Schauls of Durand, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral Mass will be 11:00AM Saturday, August 5, 2023 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Durand. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00PM-7:00PM Friday at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Durand and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.

Rhiel Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Durand, is serving the family.
