Neil W. Olson
Neil W. Olson, age 91, of Menomonie, died Wednesday October 19, 2022, at Colfax Health & Rehab in Colfax.
Neil was born November 4, 1930, at home in the Township of Rock Elm, rural Elmwood. He was the son of Eric and Helen Bergman Olson and grew up on the family farm. Neil attended and graduated from Elmwood High School. After high school, Neil served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After the service, Neil returned to Elmwood and worked in South St. Paul for a short time. Neil married Marvel Brookshaw April 10, 1954. Neil and Marvel farmed in Elmwood for many years. After farming, Neil began a 2nd career as Real Estate Assessor in the area, for approximately 32 years. Neil and Marvel moved to the Downsville area in 1986 and later to the Comforts of Home in Menomonie.
Neil enjoyed fishing and camping with his family. He also enjoyed collecting toy tractors, especially John Deere, and went to many toy shows. Neil and Marvel enjoyed traveling together and went to many places including Branson, MO, California, Seattle, Norway, Sweden, and Hawaii. Neil’s grandchildren remember how much he loved to dance around the living room with them to tunes from the Lawrence Welk Show. He was also very strong in his faith with the Lord and active in his church.
Neil is survived by his wife, Marvel, a son Greg of Strum; six grandchildren, Jeremiah Olson, Joshua Olson, Stacey (Kevin), Clements, Tatjana (Timothy) Michlig, Ryan (Kady) Olson, Ciara (CJ) Christianson; 11 great grandchildren; a brother, Floyd Olson of St. Paul, MN; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a son Douglas in 2009, two brothers, Stanley and Leonard and a sister, Norene Chase.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday October 27, 2022, at Tainter United Methodist Church, rural, Colfax. Rev. Hae Jin Bahng will be officiating. Burial will be in the Poplar Hill Cemetery, Township of Rock Elm rural Elmwood with Military Honors provided by the Crain-Ottman American Legion Post 207 of Elmwood.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.
