George A Churchill

George A Churchill, age 95 of rural Elmwood died peacefully Thursday June 16, 2022 at Heritage of Elmwood Nursing Home with family by his side. 

George was born Feb 22, 1927 in the family farm house.  He was the son of Herold and Lois (Hawn) Churchill.  George attended school in Rock Elm Wisconsin and worked alongside his brother and dad on the family farm until at age 24, he was drafted into the Army and served in the Korean Conflict from 1952-1954

George met his wife Marlys Quilling when he returned home and were married August 13th 1955 at the Iron Creek Methodist church.  They we married 60 years before she passed away in 2015. 

After marriage they made their home on the Churchill family farm in the township of Rock Elm, rural Elmwood, where they farmed and raised their family.  George was dedicated to the dairy farm where they milked cows and harvested crops.  His passion for farming alongside his son Dennis after the passing of Dennis, George continued to milk until age 86 when they sold the cows.  His other passions included making maple syrup in the family sugar bush alongside his family.  He really enjoyed going to the woods and cutting wood with his son when time allowed. 

George was known for his dedication to the Rock Elm United Methodist Church and enjoyed socializing at the summer ice cream socials.  George enjoyed spending time with the grandchildren and seeing all the great-grandchildren dressed up for holidays, especially Halloween costumes.

George is survived by his two children Paul (Dawn) Churchill of Elmwood, Susan (Steve) Thompson of Elmwood; 7 grandchildren, Stacy (Jim) Schaefer, Erin (Eric) Konsela, Kristina (Garret) Stewart, Adam (Ashley) Churchill, Tyler (Marah Boyer) Churchill, Brandi Thompson, Brittany (Lance) Peterson; two step-grandchildren Tyler (Abby) Regneir, Zachary (Kathryn) Regneir; 11 great-grandchildren and two on the way.  He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and a son, Dennis, two sisters, Jean Hatch and Grace Thiele, and a brother, Donald Churchill. 

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Monday June 27, 2022, at the Rock Elm United Methodist Church with reverend Margaret Erickson officiating. Burial will be in the Poplar Hill Cemetery, Township of Rock Elm.

 Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Rock Elm United Methodist Church or the Poplar Hill Cemetery.
