John F Lammer
John Francis Lammer age 82 of Menomonie passed away on Sunday March 8, 2009 at Our House Senior Living in Menomonie, surrounded by his loving family and his wife, Willa of almost 60 years.
John was born September 24, 1926 in Menomonie to John and Frances (Milliren) Lammer. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Menomonie and was a lifetime member. John grew up in Menomonie, attended St. Joseph’s Elementary School and graduated from Menomonie High School in 1943. John joined the U.S. Navy in 1944 and served in the Philippines during WW II. He married Willa Rayburn on June 27, 1949 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Menomonie, and to this union seven children were born.
In 1960 John purchased Lammer’s Foods from his parents was a successful businessman.
John served on the Board of Directors at First Bank & Trust. His favorite charities included Myrtle Werth Hospital; Mabel Tainter Memorial; Dunn County Historical Society; St. Joseph Church. John was involved in civic organizations including,
Menomonie Chamber of Commerce; Knights of Columbus; Durand Rod & Gun Club; Rotary; Ducks Unlimited; John was an avid hunter, golfer and fisherman.
John is survived by his wife, Willa; and six children, Lorrie (Dan) Jergenson of La Crescent, MN; Mike Lammer of Hudson; Lucy (Fred Hollenbeck) Lammer, Patrick (Jayne) Lammer and Rebecca (Tom) Massey all of Menomonie; Jennifer (Mike) Townsend of River Falls; grandchildren, Rachel Alrick & Adam Bostrack; Megan & Abby Hollenbeck; Hannah & Bryan Lammer; Willa & John Townsend; Jamie & Andre Carde; and a great granddaughter, Bronte Bostrack; a brother James (Elaine) Lammer of Menomonie; a sister JoAnn (Elwood) Bilse of Fond du lac; John was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Lynn in 2004.
In lieu of flowers John’s family appreciates memorials to the American Cancer Society.
