Helen M Sweeney
Helen M. Sweeney, age 87 of Durand and formerly of Arkansaw.
Born: May 2, 1921
Died: March 1, 2009 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire.
Helen was the daughter of William E. and Lucy (Hayden) Bauer. She was born and raised in the Town of Lima, Pepin County, rural. Durand. She attended Lima School.
On June 1, 1942 she married Jack O. Sweeney at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Lima. After marriage they lived and farmed in the Arkansaw area their entire married life. They were married 43 years before her husband passed away on September 8, 1985. Helen has been a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church at Arkansaw since she and Jack were married. In 1990 Helen moved to Durand where she remained the rest of her life. She has been a resident of the Oakview Care Center in Durand since November of 2007.
Helen enjoyed gardening and planting and growing flowers for everyone’s enjoyment. After the death of her husband, she made many friends on her trips to the casinos. Helen will be deeply missed by family and friends.
Helen is survived by four daughters, Wilma (Tony) Weisenbeck of Durand, Verona Kees of Scandia, MN, Mary (John) Frank of Cottage Grove, MN, Margo (Joe) Traun of Durand, one daughter-in-law, Ginger Sweeney of Arkansaw, 17 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, four sisters, Emma Bauer of Plum City, Aileen Wayne of Durand, Sister Marion Bauer FSPA of La Crosse, Esther Bauer of Eau Claire, two brothers, Edwin Bauer of Mondovi, Arnold Bauer of Elmwood. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jack, her son John, two grandchildren, Richard Kees and Jennifer Traun, one sister, Rosina Brantner, two brothers, Hubert and Wilfred Bauer, one sister-in-law, Elaine Bauer and two brothers-in-law, Herman Brantner and Benedict Bauer.
