Warren P. Walters, age 98 of Durand,
Born: April 14, 1910
Died: February 4, 2009 at the Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire.
Warren was the son of Richard and Ruth (Culbertson) Walters. He grew up on the Oak Grove Farm in the Town of Durand, rural Durand. He attended rural schools and graduated from Durand High School. After school he worked on the family farm and later bought the farm from his parents. He was united in marriage to Mary Baker and she later passed away in 1975. In addition to raising their own children, Warren and Mary also raised and cared for 15 foster children. Later he married Helen Hendricks of Elroy, WI. Warren served his community by serving on numerous boards, including the Pepin County Historical Society, represented the Township of Durand on the Pepin County Board of Supervisors. He was also a member of the Farm Management Club, he had a Wisconsin Tree Farm, ASCS (Land Conservation) County Committee, the Durand/Pepin Masonic Lodge, the Eau Claire Valley Consistory and the Zor Shrine, Also, he was a member of the Sawduster Club, a group of Shriners who dressed as clowns and the money they raised went to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital. Besides farming, Warren worked for the County Highway Department, Lyle Supri’s Lawnmower repair service Vaughn Rosenberg Electric and Everett Vradenberg Construction Company.
Warren is survived by his wife Helen, three children, Dan (Mary) of Eau Claire, Mary Ellen (Don) Brue of Baldwin and Donna (Kenneth) Nelson of Milaca, MN, five stepchildren, Jerry (Karen) West, of Wild Rose, Virginia (Dean) Preuss of Elroy, Jeffrey (Natalie) West, of Detroit, MI, Veronica (Bruce) Lange of Elroy, James (Donna) West, of Durand, 14 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, one sister, Harriet Aitken of Longview, WA. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary, an infant daughter, one sister Doris Greer, five brothers, John, Kenneth, Elliot, Russell, Merle and one step great grandson, Cody Lange.
