Clara H Bauer
Clara H. Bauer, age 96 of Durand,
Born: July 3, 1912
Died: Friday, January 23, 2009 at the Oakview Care Center in Durand.
Clara was the daughter of Thomas and Rosa (Fedie) Brantner. She was born and raised in the Town of Albany, rural Pepin County. She attended East Pepin School, township of Albany. After school, Clara married Paul C. Bauer June 9, 1931 in Mondovi. Clara and Paul C. farmed and raised their family on their farm in the Town of Lima, rural Pepin County where she made her home until she moved into the care center in 2007, where she remained the rest of her life.
Clara was very active in the community both civically and politically. She was a devoted catholic and a long time member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church-Lima and a member of the Alter Society. Clara was a 4H Leader for over 25 years. She was also a Farmer’s Union Member. Clara also enjoyed quilting, making many quilts over the years for friends and family members, gardening and taking “Sunday rides“ any day of the week. One of her greatest accomplishments in life was writing the book, “The Bauer Story.“ Clara always stood up for what she believed was right and followed through with everything. Most of all, she loved to spend time with her family and friends.
Clara is survived by one son, Harold (Lucille) of Mondovi, three daughters, Greta (Herman) Sobottka of Mondovi, Diana (Pete) Kuhnert of Altoona and Rose Linda (Bill) Abramovich of Durand, nine grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, eight great great grandchildren, a special brother and sister-in-law, Alfred and Lorena Bauer of Durand, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Paul C., one son in infancy, Jean, one grandson in infancy, Allen James, one brother and sister-in-law, Edwin and Arvilla Brantner and one sister, Luticia.
