Leonard R. Fedie, age 88 of Durand, died on Thursday, January 22, 2009, surrounded by his family at the Chippewa Valley Hospital in Durand, Wisconsin.

Leonard was born on August 8, 1920, the son of John and Caroline (Weber) Fedie. He grew up on the farm where he was born, attended and graduated from eighth grade at Sacred Heart School, Lima (rural Durand) in 1934.

Leonard married Theresa Mary Ann Bauer at Holy Rosary Catholic Church on May 4, 1943. They raised their family on the same farm in Buffalo County that Leonard grew up on. In 1979, Leonard and Theresa moved to their retirement home in the Town of Lima, Pepin County.

Leonard enjoyed family get-togethers, fishing and playing cards, and he was an avid gardener, who was always willing to give gardening advice and a tour of his 29 tree spread. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #2422 since 1944 and was active at the county level of Tri-State Breeders Cooperative (now known as Accelerated Genetics).

Leonard is survived by Theresa, his wife of 65 years, their children Monica (Duane) Weiss of Norfolk, MA; Alan (Carol) Fedie of Tucson, AZ; Jan (Dory) Fedie of Rice Lake, WI; Marlene Fedie of Eau Claire, WI; Byron (Li) Fedie of Maple Grove, MN; Carolyn (Mark) Rutherford of Rice Lake, WI; Bill (Lois) Fedie of Durand; Anita (Wayne) Patnode of Arkansaw, WI; Beth (Dennis) Smith of Elk Mound, WI; and Audrey (Rob) Jaenke of Eau Claire, WI; 21 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; and 11 step-great-grandchildren and three sisters-in-law, Gertrude Fedie, Mary Fedie and Juliana Fedie.

Leonard was preceded in death by his son Jeffrey, his parents, two sisters, nine brothers, five brothers in law, four sisters in law and one granddaughter (Jennifer Weiss) in infancy.
