Margaret R. Hofacker, age 100 of Elmwood,
Born: September 12, 1907
Died: December 4, 2007 at her home in Elmwood.
Margaret was the daughter of Frank and Mary (Birkel) Laschinger. She was born in the Waterville Township, Pepin County, rural Arkansaw. Margaret attended Knight Country School and graduated from Arkansaw High School in 1926. After high school, Margaret went on to River Falls Normal and taught in schools for several years. Margaret married Alfred Hofacker June 3, 1930 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Elmwood. After marriage, they moved to their farm in Exile, where she remained the rest of her life. Margaret was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Plum City for over 70 years.
Margaret was the oldest living member of the Arkansaw Old Settlers and was recently recognized by the group for her 100th birthday. Margaret enjoyed sewing, canning, cooking and attending to her strawberries and raspberries on her farm. She also loved spending time with family and friends.
Margaret is survived by two daughters, Lila Bates and Lita Hofacker, both of Elmwood, two sons, Leon (Loretta) Hofacker of Durand and Lyle (Theresa) Hofacker of Plum City, 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, a special cousin Hazel Maxwell of Arkansaw. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Alfred in 1954, two daughters, Lois Kieser and Lucy Hofacker, one brother, Joseph Laschinger, three sisters, Clara Laschinger, Laura Pittman and Therese Bechel and one son-in-law, William Kieser.
