John L Weinzirl
John L. Weinzirl, age 78 of Eau Galle
Born: September 10, 1930
Died: December 29, 2008 peacefully at the Chippewa Valley Hospital in Durand surrounded by all of his children and grandchildren.
John was the son of John C. and Clara (Bauer) Weinzirl. He was born in Eau Claire and lived his entire life in the town of Eau Galle, Dunn County. John was baptized and confirmed at St. Henry’s Parish where he worshiped his entire life. He was active in the CYO and 4-H. He graduated from St. Henry’s Grade School and Durand High School. He loved sports and lettered in three of them. John was an all-conference football player on the 1947 championship football team. He also attended the Eau Claire Teacher’s College. In 1950, he met Marian Weber, the love of his life. They were married on June 19, 1953 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Menomonie. John and Marian were blessed with four children and celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 2003.
John was active in various organizations. He helped organize the Missouri Valley 4-H Club and served as their first general leader. He was a member of the Dunn County Holstein Breeders Association and held various offices. He and his son Steve received the Holstein Progressive Breeders Award. As a member of the Pepin County Farm Management Club, he served as an officer and later received the Outstanding Farmer Award. John and Marian were also honored to receive the Dunn County Conservation Farm Award. He served as Delegate, President, and Director for District 39 of AMPI (Associated Milk Producers). John served as Grand Knight of the Durand Knights of Columbus Council #2422 and was a member of the 4th Degree.
John is survived by his wife Marian, two daughters Carolyn (David) McMahon of Durand and Celeste Weinzirl of Eau Claire, two sons, Steven (Yvonne) of Elmwood and Jeffrey of Eau Galle, nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, one brother, Norbert Weinzirl of Durand, two sisters, Darlene Molla of Herrin, IL and Betty Ninefeldt of Forest Lake, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Mary, and one grandson, Bill McMahon.
