Mary Dorick McKanna age 86 of Menomonie, formerly Illinois
Died: Peacefully on Thursday December 25, 2008 at her home at Country Terrace in Menomonie.
Mary Frances Dorick was born on December 23, 1922 in Highland Park, Illinois to William and
Olive Dorick, immigrants from Austria. Mary attended grade school and high school in Highland Park
and as a girl developed a love of music. In 1944, Mary received a B.S. degree in Home Economics at
Stout State College in Menomonie, WI. While attending Stout, Mary met William P. McKanna of
Menomonie and they were married on June 15, 1946. Mary and her husband raised their four daughters
in Lemont, Illinois. The family belonged to St. Patrick Parish in Lemont where Mary accepted leadership
positions on the School Board and the Women’s Club. She was also a substitute teacher at St. Patrick
School. Mary served as a volunteer board member of the Girl Scouts of America Trailways Council and
the Community Chest of the Village of Lemont. In 1988, Mary moved to Willowbrook, Illinois. In her
retirement years, she enjoyed gardening and gathering with family and friends. She was also active in
the Palos Park Women’s Club. She recently moved to Menomonie from Villa St. Benedict
in Lisle, Illinois.
Mary is survived by four daughters, Kathleen McKanna (John) Kehoe of Burke, VA; Margaret McKanna (Vern Kenas) of Menomonie, WI; Sharon McKanna (Harold J.) Hayes of Chicago, IL; Patricia McKanna (Joseph) Trindl of Glen Ellyn, IL; eight grandchildren, Sean (Elizabeth Parker) Kehoe; Colleen (Ira) Bishop; Evan, Brigitte and Brendan Trindl; Kaitlin, and Maggie Hayes; Jennifer McKanna; three great grandchildren, John, Frances and Josephine Kehoe; a sister Alice (James) Doyle of Newark, NY.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband William and a sister Elizabeth Quinn Boyd.
