Ann Retzloff
Ann Marie (Cassellius) Retzloff age 96 of Menomonie,
Died: Tuesday December 23, 2008 at the Dunn County Health Care Center in Menomonie.
Ann was born in St. Croix County on November 24, 1912 to Herman and Magdelina (Praschak) Cassellius. Ann and her family spoke only German until she and a sister and brother began attending Camp 9 School. At that time, because only English was allowed in the school, the family, under Herman’s direction, all learned to speak English. She attended Camp 9 School and church, near Emerald, later working at Jaeger’s Bakery and living in Menomonie. On November 30, 1940, she married Gordon Retzloff of Menomonie at St. John’s Catholic Church in Glenwood City. After marriage, she lived in for a brief time in Milwaukee, returning to Menomonie where she lived the rest of her life.
Ann was a hard working, civic minded lady who was active in the Alter Society at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Menomonie, a member of Beta Sigma Phi, a service sorority, and worked as a bookkeeper at Retzloff and Ryder Dealership. Ann was a terrific homemaker who loved music, tend her flowers and dance with Gord.
Ann is survived by her sister, Clara Mortel of South St. Paul, MN; sisters-in-law, Loretta Cassellius of Glenwood City and Catherine Cassellius of Hammond; as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and many friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gordon, three months to the day; an infant sister Cecelia; a brothers Lawrence and wife Harriet, Clarence and Frank Cassellius; sister, Christine Lifto and husband Melvin.
