Sharon M. Prissel

Sharon M. Prissel, age 81 of Durand, peacefully passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2019 surrounded by her family.

Sharon was born on May 4, 1937 in Durand. She was the daughter of Garrett “Jerry” and Ruth (Bauer) Auth. Sharon grew up in the Arkansaw and Durand area and graduated from Durand High School in 1955. After high school, Sharon attended and graduated from St. Catherine University in the Twin Cities with a degree in nursing. In 1959, Sharon went to work as a nurse at St. Benedict Hospital in Durand and married Leon Prissel on October 31 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Durand. After marriage, they continued living in Durand and raised their family. Sharon took a job as a nurse for the Pepin County Health Department in 1965. She worked for Pepin County the rest of her career, eventually becoming the Director of the Pepin County Health Department and she retired in 2004.

Sharon loved to spend time with her family, especially spending time with and going to see her grandchildren’s school and sports events. She enjoyed traveling with family and friends, going out for dinner and bus rides with friends to the casino.

Sharon is survived by her children; Jeff (Sally) of Durand, Lee (Rose) of Rochester, MN, Paul (Michele) of Los Angeles, CA, Sharon (John) Singer of Newark, DE, Susan (Ted) Baier of Durand and Stephen (Anna) of Rapid City, MI, 14 grandchildren, three great grandchildren, one brother; Garrett “Jerry” Jr. (Kathy) Auth of Inver Grove Heights, MN, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband; Leon, three infant children; Mary Sharon, Robert and Garret.

Memorial Mass will be 10:30AM Saturday, March 23, 2019 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Durand with Rev. Paul Bosco officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be from 4:00PM – 7:00PM Friday at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Durand and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.

Rhiel Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Durand, is serving the family.

    I'm sorry to hear about the passing of Sharon. She was a lovely lady to talk to at the Library. She would bring in bags of books every other month to us as a donation. We will miss her dearly.
