Beryl E. Holmstadt
Born: July 18, 1922
Died: December 8, 2008 at the Chippewa Valley Hospital in Durand.
Beryl was the son of Frank J. and Sophie N. (Caturia) Holmstadt. He was born and raised in Plum City and attended Plum City Schools. Beryl farmed with his brother on the family farm in until entering the Army in World War II. He served in the Pacific Theatre War. After the service, Beryl meet Evelyn Hartley on a blind date in 1947 and they were married in 1949 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Arkansaw. After marriage, he worked in Durand as a mechanic at several garages, also at Skelgas, Presto Industries in Eau Claire and he retired from the Durand Cooperative.
Beryl was a tinkerer. He enjoyed working on bicycles, lawn mowers, cars, especially Fords. He also liked to fish, go to car races, snowmobiling, woodworking, carpentry and was a Mr. Fix It.
Beryl is survived by his wife Evelyn, two daughters, Sandra Holmstadt of Racine and Susan (John) Birtzer of Eau Claire, two sons, Andrew of Durand and Thomas (Pearl) of Menomonie, one daughter-in-law, Carolyn Holmstadt of Nelson, seven grandchildren, two step grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, two step great grandchildren and two sisters, Lorraine (Bernard) Brenner of Durand and Lucille Zimmerman of Eau Claire. He is preceded in death by his parents, one son David, three brothers, Clarence, Paul and Galen, one sister Marcella Smith and his step father, Peter Horn.
