Doris E. Broberg

Doris E. Broberg

Doris Elaine Logslett Broberg passed away very peacefully with her family at her side on Thursday April 19, 2018 at The Classic on Hillcrest Greens in Altoona.

Doris was born at home on December 22, 1932 to Alfred and Helma Martinson Logslett at the farm in the Town of Grant, County of Dunn.  She was baptized shortly after she was born.  She was confirmed at Holden Lutheran Church in rural Colfax.  She graduated from Colfax High School in 1950.  She married Stanley Broberg on December 30, 1950 at Holden Lutheran Church.  She was a faithful and loving wife, mother, grandma and great-grandma.

She was a full-time helper on the farm and was especially proud of her pickle patch.  She enjoyed sewing, quilting, embroidering dish towels and playing cards.  She was a cook at Grandview School in rural Rock Falls for 23 years retiring May 28, 1993, the same day Stanley retired from the railroad.  They spent 25 years of retirement together.  They traveled to several of the national parks, many of the lower 48 states and Alaska.  The most memorable of their trips is when she was able to travel to Tromso, Norway and they were able to visit the farmstead of her great-grandfather.  She was active at Rock Creek Lutheran Church as a member of the ladies aid, the quilting group and was also a leader of the Luther League.  Anytime there was a meal to be served in the church basement, they would call on Doris.  Her fondest moment in her kitchen is when most of her great-grand daughters came out to learn how to make lefse. Most of all, Doris loved spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Doris is survived by her husband of 67 years Stanley, daughters Brenda (Jim) Bauer of Rock Falls, Diane (Doug) Knudsen of Durand, Linda (Mark) Kerkhoff of Manning, Iowa, Becky (Pete) Richardson of Durand, Colleen (Randy) Weiss of Durand and Caryl (Randy) Keys of Madison and one son David (Jim Sass) of Plymouth, MN, 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law Loretta Logslett, DeVerna Logslett, Ruth Hayden, many nieces, nephews and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents Alfred and Helma Logslett, brothers, Robert and Julian, infant brother Stanley, sisters and brothers-in-law Elsie and Gordon Broberg and Helen and Ron Rothhouse.

Funeral services will be held at Rock Creek Lutheran Church in rural Rock Falls 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 24, 2018 with Pastor Paul Oppedahl officiating.  Burial will be in the Meridean-Rock Creek Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 4:00PM to 8:00 PM Monday at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Durand and one hour prior to services at the church.

Her family would like to thank Jane Poeschel and staff at Durand Clinic South, the staff at The Classic, and Heartland Hospice for their wonderful care and compassion.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Pepin County Food Pantry or Rock Creek Lutheran Church.

The first time I met Doris, I knew she was a special lady. It was an honor getting to know her and I will miss her smile when I walked in and her contagious laugh. She had a great sense of humor. I always seemed to get a smirk or chuckle out of her. Doris had a light in her that always shined through even when she was feeling down. I will miss our talks and seeing her latest quilting piece.
My heart hurts for the entire Broberg family, she will be dearly missed at The Classic.
