Arla Mae Marson
Arla Mae Marson age 91 of Elmwood, passed away on Saturday December 24, 2016 at Mayo Clinic Health System-Red Cedar in Menomonie, with her family by her side.
Arla was born March 25, 1925 to Axel and Hazel (Hollingsworth) Thorson in Menomonie. She attended North School in Menomonie from 1st to 7th grade and then went downtown to Menomonie High School until graduating in 1943. After graduating high school she and one of her best friends moved to Waukesha, where they both worked at the Motor Works Factory as Inspectors.
In January of 1946, Arla met John Bernard Marson and the couple were married on October 7, 1946 and they made their home in Elmwood, where they lived the rest of their lives. To this union four children were born.
In 1966 Arla went to work as a cook for the Elmwood School District, where she worked until retiring in 1998 after 32 years. Arla also worked cleaning the Elmwood Clinic in the evenings for many years.
When her children were young she involved herself in many of their activities, school events, cub scouts, etc. She attended many of the grandchildren and great grandchildren’s events throughout the years. Basketball being her favorite.
Arla invested her whole heart into her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and in the last couple of years, great-great grandchildren. She loved nothing more than to be around her family.
Arla is survived by her children, Julie M. Marson Glaus of Hagar City, John W. (Jodell) Marson and Jeffery L. Marson (Dorothy) both of Menomonie, James B. (Pam) Marson of Elmwood; 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren; a brother Berton (Deanna) Thorson of Menomonie and nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband John B. Marson, a grandson Derrick J. Marson, two brothers Gerald and wife Ann Thorson and Marvin Thorson, two sisters, Alice and husband Clyde Prector and June and husband Louis Stoeklen.
Celebration of Life will be held from 12:00 Noon, to 3:00 PM Thursday December 29, 2016 at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Elmwood, immediately followed by a grave side service at Sacred Heart Cemetery-Farm Hill, rural Elmwood.
