Elmer W. Winter
Elmer Wade Winter, age 58 of Durand, passed away surrounded by family on Friday, September 2, 2016 at SHSH Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire.
Elmer was born to John and Mary (Kitchner) Winter on August 12, 1958 in Tucson, AZ. John, Mary, and their family later moved to Wisconsin when Elmer was a young boy. Elmer married his high school sweetheart, Lisa Bauer of Durand on April 7, 1979.
He was a family man and would do anything for his three children and four grand-children. Being a grandpa suited him well and nothing brought him more joy than making his grandkids happy, which included teasing them until they would sigh, “oh grandpa.” Elmer also loved Christmas and always made the holiday memorable with a special gift from Dad/Grandpa.
He took great pride in his work, which involved maintaining the schools and churches of the Durand area and their associated grounds. Outside of work Elmer enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and spending time on his peaceful, wooded property in the Buttermilk Coulee.
Elmer was fun-loving and made many friends during his short life. There were many hunting, fishing, golfing, and NASCAR trips with his kids and friends. These trips created so many memories and stories that were told over and over again. Elmer was a good man that surrounded himself with good people. He will be sorely missed by many.
Elmer is survived by his wife, Lisa, of 37 years, his children, Elmer (significant other, Laura) of Durand, Tiffany (Kevin) Karls of Sun Prairie, and Justin (Amy) of Menomonie. Grandchildren, Hunter, Autumn, Berkley, and Jack. Father, John Winter of Mondovi. Siblings, John (Jane), Jodie (Amy), Kellee (Kent), and Gina (Rick) Siblings-in-laws, Sheri (Bob) Kremer, Jackie (Dan) Lehman, Colette (Don) Weiss, and John (Nicki) Bauer.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Mary Winter, father-in-law, John Bauer, niece, Jenna (Winter) O'Donahue, Jonathon Lehman, and his good friend Rosie.
Memorial services will be held at 5:30 PM Wednesday September 7, 2016 at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Durand with Rev. Paul Bosco officiating. A Celebration of Life will immediately follow the services at the Durand Rod & Gun Club (N7312 State Rd 25). A private burial will be held at a later date.
The family would like to thank Sacred Heart Hospital staff who were so wonderful to Elmer and his family during the last days of his life.
