Donald J. Goodrich
Donald J. Goodrich age 87 of Menomonie, died Friday March 18, 2016 at Mayo Clinic Health System-Red Cedar in Menomonie.
Don was born May 21, 1928 in Menomonie, the son of Donald L. and Marion (Jones) Goodrich. He graduated from Menomonie High School in 1946 and Ripon College in 1950. Don served in the U.S. Army Engineers of 7th Division in Korea from 1951- 1952. He married Olive M. Brownell July 28, 1951 in Racine, MN. In 1954 Don graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Mortuary Science. He returned to Menomonie to join his father, Donald L. Goodrich in the Goodrich Family Funeral and Furniture businesses. Don retired from the funeral business in 1987 and from the furniture business in 1992.
Don was an active member of the community. He was a member of the Menomonie Lions Club for over 35 years. A life member of the American Legion and V.F.W.; member of the Menomonie Moose Lodge; member and Past Patron of the Order of Eastern Star; member and past Master of Menomonie Lodge# 164 F & AM; member of Eau Claire Scottish Rite Consistory & Zor Temple Shrine. He was an active member of First Congregational Church, serving as Moderator and various other boards and committees; served on the Board of Directors of the Bank of Menomonie for over 25 years; served as Secretary of the Menomonie Ambulance Board for over 10 years.
Don is survived by his wife of 64 years, Olive; three daughters, Jane (Scott) Christensen of Wisconsin Dells, Gail (Michael) Tracy of Overland Park, KS, Lynn (Edward) Furey of Eagle, WI; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren; a brother, Jack (Mary) of Fort Collins, a sister, Patricia Christensen of East Wenatchee, WA, several nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday March 23, 2016 at First Congregational Church-UCC in Menomonie with Rev. James “Buck” Firth officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Menomonie Veterans Honor Guard.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.
