James  Miles Jr.

James Miles Jr., age 91 of Arkansaw, died Friday, March 11, 2016 at his home in Arkansaw.

Jim was born on January 8, 1925 in Arkansaw. He was the son of James Sr. and Harriet (Murry) Miles. He grew up in Arkansaw and graduated from Arkansaw High School in 1943, where he boxed for six years. After high school, he attended UW-Madison and joined the U.S. Marine Corp during WWII. Jim served on Iwo Jima where his regiment took Mt. Serabachi. He witnessed the raising of the American Flag, and was Honorably Discharged from the Corp after the war.  Jim then went to Meat Cutting School in Ohio and returned home to work with his father at the Miles Locker Plant and tavern. He also worked in carpentry. Jim married Margaret Stoffregen on August 16, 1948 at the Durand Methodist Church. After marriage they built and raised their family in his current home in Arkansaw. Jim retired in 1990.

Jim enjoyed trout fishing in Northern Wisconsin and fishing in the local rivers, turkey and deer hunting, and playing cards. Most of all Jim loved to spend time with family.

Jim is survived by his children; Deborah and Alan Clare of Plum City, Michael and Donna Miles of Durand, four grandchildren; Chad and Molly Clare of Bloomington, MN, Niccole and Tony Morris of Durand, Brandon and Erin Clare of Plum City and Jannine and Jeffery Kralewski of Durand, eight great grandchildren; Andrew, Evan, Ethan, Jordan, Macy, Allison, Mason and Miles, one sister; Audrey Radle of Huntington Beach, CA, nieces, nephews and other relatives. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Margaret, one brother; Keith and one sister; Betty Harmon.

Memorial Services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at the Arkansaw United Methodist Church in Arkansaw with Rev. Lisa Weaver officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the Durand American Legion Post #181 of Durand. Friends may call one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.
