Richard L. Baier
Richard L. Baier age 79 of Elmwood, died Friday March 4, 2016 at the Heritage of Elmwood Nursing Home in Elmwood.
Dick was born September 16, 1936 in Durand. He was the son of Earl and Evelyn (Bates) Baier and grew up in the Eau Galle area. He entered the U.S. Marine Corps in 1954and was stationed in California and was honorably discharged in 1962. After his discharge he returned home and married Marilyn M. Gauvin January 16, 1960 in Elmwood. Dick worked as the Chief of Police in Elmwood for a short time and also was a traffic officer for the Pierce County Sheriff’s Dept. Dick operated the Farmer’s Bar in Elmwood for several years, and changed the name to the Longbranch. Dick then went on to work for Sweeney Brothers Construction, later becoming Timme Construction, for thirty years, retiring in 1994. Dick was an active member of the Crain-Ottman American Legion Post 207 of Elmwood, and he served on the Elmwood Village Board for several years.
Dick enjoyed deer hunting, walking, fishing, gambling, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Dick is survived by his wife, Marilyn, a son, Richard “Ric” (Felicia Otto), of Menomonie, a daughter, Mary Jo (Thomas) Bloczynski of Marshfield; four grandsons, Richard III, Joseph, Tommy, and Asher Baier, two great grandchildren, Richard IV, and Hazen Baier; one brother, Hank (Mary) Baier of Menomonie; a sister-in-law, Marlene Baier of Bremerton, WA and several nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two daughters, Laura Lee in 1962 and Tina in 1989, a grandson Dustin, two brothers, Eugene and Joseph.
The family would like to thank, Dr. Carrie Nelson, the nurses and staff at the Heritage of Elmwood Nursing Home and St. Croix Hospice, for the wonderful care given to Dick throughout his illness.
Memorial services will be 11:00 AM Friday March 11, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Elmwood with Rev. Prince Raja officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Military honors will be provided by the Crain-Ottman American Legion Post 207 of Elmwood.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Thursday at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Elmwood and one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
