Lawrence E. Ziehl
Lawrence E. Ziehl age 93 of Menomonie, died Wednesday January 20, 2016 at HSHS Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire.
Larry was born August 15, 1922 near Rusk- Beyer Settlement area of Dunn County. He was the son of Ervin Benjamin and Anna (Hankey) Ziehl and grew up in the Rusk community. Larry was proud of the fact he was able to graduate from Colfax High School. He worked for R.E. A until he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served during WWII. Larry was a tail-gunner on a B52 and served in the Pacific Theater. In 1962 he married Shirley Hammer on August 4, in Red Wing, MN. Larry owned and operated the West Gate Grill in Red Wing with his wife, Shirley. In 1967 they moved to Altoona where he was the Chef/ Manager at Consumers Coop for several years. They later moved to Menomonie where Larry began selling cars for NorthSide Motors. Larry also served as the Dunn County Emergency Government Director until he retired. After the death of his wife Shirley, Larry later married Gloria Welch. For the past 10 months, Larry has lived at the Chippewa Falls Veterans Nursing Home.
The family would like to thank the Nurses and Staff of the Veterans Nursing Home and Sacred Heart Hospital for the loving care he has received during his time there.
Larry enjoyed his time hunting, fishing, camping, and visiting with family and friends.
Larry is survived by his wife, Gloria, his only daughter Patty (David) Sol of Elk Mound; three grandchildren, Tammy Sol of Bozman, MT, Dawn (Robert) Kelly of Elk Mound, Kimberly (Artem) Pechischev of Big Sky, MT, two great granddaughters, McKenzie and Olivia Kelly; several step children and step great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by parents his wife Shirley, a brother Jerome in infancy and a brother Rueben.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday January 23, 2016 at Chirst Lutheran Church in Menomonie with Rev. Jeanne Warner officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Menomonie Veterans Honor Guard. Burial will be in the spring in the Mamre Cemetery, in the Township of Menomonie.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Friday at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Menomonie and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
