Susan K. Geraets age 44 of Elmwood, passed away suddenly on Monday January 11, 2016 at the Hudson Hospital in Hudson.

Susan was born December 24, 1971 in River Falls.  She was the daughter of Robert W. and Kathleen H. (Schmidt) Geraets and grew up in the Waverly area of rural Elmwood.  Susan graduated from Elmwood High School in 1990.  She attended UW River Falls for one year after high school.  Susan was employed part time at the Cenex Convenience Store in Elmwood while attending college and later full time as a manager before starting her current job as a Customer Sales & Service Representative for Baldwin Light Stream (formerly Baldwin Telecom) where she has been employed for the past 16 years.

Susan was very involved with 4-H with the Rock Elm Skyrockets and Pierce County Fair.  She was a Superintendent of the Small Animal Building at the Pierce Co. Fair for many years.  Susan enjoyed being part of the Pierce Co. Fair so much so, she always scheduled her vacation so she could attend the fair.  Susan loved animals (especially chickens and rabbits) and flowers.  She also enjoyed baking, gardening, and spending time with her family, especially her nephew and nieces.  Susan was very proud of the fact that she was able to have a house built the way she wanted on her property.

Susan is survived by her parents, Robert and Kathleen Geraets of Elmwood, her siblings, James (Sheri) of Spring Valley and their children, Max and Megan, Anthony of Elmwood and his daughter, Amber, Gwendolyn Geraets of Elmwood, Nicholas (Stacey) of Roberts, Tina (Eric) Riner of Eagan, MN-who are expecting twin boys, and several aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Julie Geraets, her grandparents, Leo & Elsie Schmidt and Lawrence & Pearl Geraets; five uncles, Harold Thompson, Joseph, Ernest, John and Bernard (Audrey) Schmidt.

Memorial services will be 12:00 PM Saturday January 16, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic church in Elmwood with Rev. Prince Raja officiating.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of the services at the church on Saturday.

   Pierce County 4H and "the Fair" has lost a person who is truly irreplaceable. Susan's smile and cheerful conversation at the poultry barn was a "must" to include in every Fair visit - even if our kids were no longer "showing". I do have relatives that have. They say that their faith and memories helped them through it. I did lose my older brother years ago and every once in awhile a memory comes in. Same with my parents.     We are so very sad to hear about Susan passing away! She will very much be missed up in the small animals barn at the fair. She seemed to almost live in that barn during the fair. She was awesome role model for many 4Hers and FFA members over the years. She will be very much be missed by the 4Hers with her very energetic and always happy attitude.
