Marlys L. Churchill

Marlys L. Churchill age 85 of rural Elmwood, died peacefully on Sunday December 27, 2015 at her home in the Township of Rock Elm, Pierce County.

Marlys was born January 6, 1930 in Menomonie and grew up in the Township of Spring Brook Dunn County.  She was the daughter of Leonard and Lillian (Lentz) Quilling.  Marlys graduated from Menomonie High School and went onto U.W. Stout and received her B.S. degree in Home Economics. Marlys began teaching Home Economics in 1952 at Plum City and taught for three years.  She met and then married George Churchill on August 13, 1955 at the Iron Creek United Methodist Church.  After marriage they made their home on the Churchill home farm in the Township of Rock Elm, rural Elmwood, where they farmed and raised their family.  Marlys helped with all aspects of farming along with running the household.  She was also very instrumental in the maple syrup business they operated.  Marlys was a 4-H Leader for the Rock Elm Sky Rockets for many years.  Marlys entered the open class at the Pierce County Fair for many years, where she would enter some of her baking, canning and sewing projects.  Marlys was an active member of the Rock Elm United Church and was known for her pies that she brought for the ice cream socials.

Marlys enjoyed spending time with all her grandchildren, going to all their activities in school and college.  They brought so much joy into her life.

Marlys is survived by her husband of 60 years, George; two children, Paul (Dawn) of Plum City, Susan (Steve) Thompson of Elmwood; seven grandchildren, Stacy Churchill, Erin (Eric) Konsela, Kristina (Garret) Stewart, Adam and Tyler Churchill, Brandi Thompson, Brittany (Lance) Peterson; two step grandchildren, Tyler and Zachary Regnier; four great grandchildren and one on the way; three sisters, Marjorie Quilling, Betty (Maynard) Moe and Mary (Robert) Trainor all of Menomonie; her twin brother, Marshall Quilling of Menomonie, several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, a son Dennis; two brothers, Alvin and Richard Quilling; and a sister, Ruth Mueller.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Thursday December 31, 2015 at the Rock Elm United Methodist Church with Rev. Michael Weaver officiating.  Burial will be in the Poplar Hill Cemetery, Township of Rock Elm, rural Elmwood.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Wednesday at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Elmwood and one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.
