Edward W. Wormhoudt
Edward W. Wormhoudt, age 91 of Durand, died Friday, October 30, 2015 at Sacred Heart Hosptial in Eau Claire with his family by his side.
Edward was born October 5, 1924 in Iowa. He was the son of Andrew and Rachel (Weston) Wormhoudt. He graduated from high school and joined the U.S. Army and served overseas in North Africa, Italy and Austria during WWII and was Honorably Discharged. Edward then went to Lawrence Tech and attained his Engineering Degree. He married Elaine Avis Horton and they bought house in Detroit. Edward worked for and architectural firm for 12 years before taking a job at Ford Motor Company. Edward worked for Ford until retiring in 1991. After retiring Edward and Elaine moved to Pensacola, Florida. Elaine passed away in June of 2010. In 2012, Edward moved to be with his son and granddaughter in Durand, where he remained the rest of his life.
During WWII, Edward fought for his country as part of the FSSF (First Special Service Force), the Black Devils and served in Anzio, Italy. He was a decorated veteran and received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. In February, Edward traveled to Washington D.C. to receive the Congressional Gold Medal for being a member of the first Special Forces.
Edward enjoyed golfing, fishing and bowling. He also liked to travel and traveled all over the country. Most of all Edward loved to spend time with family and friends.
Edward is survived by his son; Lynn Wormhoudt, granddaughter; Lisa Wormhoudt, both of Durand, grandson; John Wormhoudt of Milwaukee, 1 great grandson; Gavin Wormhoudt, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife; Elaine and daughter-in-law; Donna Wormhoudt.
Inurnment with Military Honors will be held at a later date at the Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, FL.
