Joseph D. Unser
Joseph D. Unser, age 29 of Eau Galle, died Saturday, September 26, 2015 in Eau Galle as the result of a motorcycle accident.
Joe was born on July 28, 1986 in La Crosse. He was the son of John C. and Karen (Zastrow) Unser. Joe grew up in the Arkansaw area and graduated from Durand High School in 2004. After high school, Joe worked for RM Schlosser Excavating for eight years. In 2011, Joe went to work for Fairmont-Santrol sand mine in Maiden Rock, where he remained the rest of his career.
Joe liked riding his Harley Davidson Fat Bob Screaming Eagle on rides all over the area. He also enjoyed going to rock concerts, cooking, watching SOA and his dog Optimus. Joe loved spending time with his family, especially his nieces and nephews. He had a heart of gold, he loved everyone and everyone loved him. Joe would go out of his way to help anybody, whether he knew you or not.
Joe is survived by his mom, Karen of Durand, siblings; April (Stephen) Unser of Durand, John K. (Tara) of Mondovi, Justin “Bacon” of Eau Galle, nieces and nephews; Shantel, Jackson, Braelee, Jacob and Brogen, two grandmothers; Dorothy Unser of Elmwood and Theresa Zastrow of Arcadia, his dog; Optimus, best friends; Pete Konsela, Wiley Drier, Tyler (Deanna) Hayden, Tom (Amanda) Branch and Larry Pickerign, aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his father, Big John, grandfathers; Raymond Zastrow and Kenneth Unser, two uncles; Little Ray and Linus Zastrow, two cousins; Chris Brunner and a Brantner in infancy, special friend; Kendra Reinhardt and lil buddy; Macin Olson-Finstuen.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Friday, October 2, 2015 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Arkansaw with Rev. Paul G. Czerwonka officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-8 PM on Thursday at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Durand and one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
