Arline Margaret Smeltzer
Arline Margaret Smeltzer, 83 of Menomonie died Tuesday August 18, 2015 at her home surrounded by her family.
Arline was born on December 10, 1931 in Eau Galle, WI. She was the daughter of Richard “Dick” and Ida (Weber) Bauer. Arline spent most of her life in Menomonie where she raised her six children. She graduated from St. Henry’s grade school in Eau Galle and in 1950 from Durand High School. Arline married Willmer “Bill” Smeltzer January 9, 1952. Arline worked at the Dunn County Health Care Center until her retirement. She was active in women’s church circles at St. Henry’s in Eau Galle and St. Joseph’s in Menomonie. Arline’s number one joy in her life was being a mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a wonderful cook, who loved to share her recipes. She enjoyed crocheting baby blankets for all her grandchildren and playing cards with all her lady friends. Arline was a number one fan of the Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers.
Arline is survived by her children, Diane Fox (Dennis Weber) of Menomonie, Paulette (Dr. Robert) Norby of Menomonie, Richard (Tamera) Smeltzer of Fall Creek, Sue Van Osdale (Jimmy Schunk) of Menomonie, Randy (Ranie) Smeltzer of Colfax, Kevin (Teri) Smeltzer of Menomonie; 14 grandchildren, James (Noelle) Fox Jr., Bradley (Meghan) Fox, Stephanie (Shane) Konop, Danell Norby (Derek Slagel), Alex Norby, Keith, Sarah, and Tanya Smeltzer, Andrew (Karissa), Sean (Amy), and Sam Van Osdale, Katrina (Chris) Bastyr, Vanessa, and Jake Smeltzer (Brook Hegeman); step grandchildren Jennifer (Zac) Ambord, Casey (Jenni), and Mitchell (Nicole) Kannel; seven great grandchildren, Laurel, Esther, and Sidney Fox, Lyli Smeltzer, Lila Van Osdale, Chloe and Kaden Bastyr; step great grandchildren, Camden and Brecken Ambord, Braylon, Bennett, Avery, Peyton, and Nora Kannel; three sisters-in-law, Shari (Dave) Biskey, Marion (Jerry) Fitzgerald, Marcella Marcou, two brothers-in-law, Art Brenner and Glenn (Dorothy) Smeltzer, several nieces, nephews, other relative and friends and her beloved dog, Chipper.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Willmer “Bill”, a brother, Jim Bauer, a sister, Anna Marie Brenner, son-in-law, James Fox Sr., and a grandson Bryce Smeltzer.
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Saturday August 22, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Menomonie with Rev. James Kurzynski officiating. Burial will be in the Nelson Cemetery in Nelson.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 PM Friday at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Menomonie and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
