Gail W. Collett
Gail W. Collett, age 84 of Plum City, died Sunday, May 31, 2015 at the Plum City Care Center in Plum City after a short illness with his family by his side.
Gail was born on November 22, 1930 on the Collett Home Farm in the Salem Township rural Pierce County. He was the son of Willard and Alice (Martin) Collett. Gail grew up on the farm and graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1948. After high school, Gail stayed on the family farm. On September 27, 1950, Gail married Marion Lamm at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Elmwood. After marriage they continued to farm and raise their family. In 1994, Gail and Marion sold the farm and retired to Plum City where he remained the rest of his life. In retirement, Gail and Marion enjoyed winters in Lake Havasu City, AZ and morning coffee at Molly’s On Main.
Gail served on the Plum City School Board for 25 years. He was the last active charter member of the Plum City Lions which formed in 1967 and he was also a recipient of the Melvin Jones’ Fellowship Award. Gail enjoyed attending all Plum City High School activities and visiting with family and friends.
Gail is survived by his wife of 64 years; Marion, four children; Ron (Jane) of Red Wing, MN, Judy (Jim) Birk of Madison, Linda (Jerry) Serum of Plum City and Craig (Cindy) of Maplewood, MN, nine grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren, one sister; Lorna (Herb) Herbaly of Littleton, CO, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by parents, one granddaughter; Sara Fedie, three sisters; Valera Shafer, Maxine Matzek and Margie Collett in childhood.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM Thursday, June 4, 2015 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plum City. Rev. Dan Pfaffe will officiate. Burial will be in the Town of Union Cemetery immediately following the services. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 4-8PM at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Durand and one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Gail’s name to the Immanuel Lutheran Church or the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
