LaVerne J. Bauer

LaVerne J. Bauer, age 80 of Arkansaw, died Thursday, May 14, 2015 at the Plum City Care Center in Plum City with his family by his side.
LaVerne was born on August 23, 1934 on the home farm in Meridean, rural Mondovi. LaVerne was the son of Allie M. and Clara Schuh, he moved at the age of 4 with his family to the Fox Valley area of Durand, where he grew up. He attended Sacred Heart School in Lima. LaVerne worked on the family farm and various other farms. He enrolled in the National Guard and served for three years before being Honorably Discharged in 1954. LaVerne married Carol J. Thompson on April 21, 1954 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Lima. After marriage they lived and worked on the Pattison Farm for four years. In 1956 they bought the family farm, where they raised their family. LaVerne farmed and worked at the Durand Canning Company until his retirement in 1996. In 1986 they moved to Arkansaw, where LaVerne remained the rest of his life.
LaVerne enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time at his cabin and camp fires on Lake Tainter. He liked to watch sports, especially his children and grandchildren’s sporting events. LaVerne enjoyed traveling and going to card clubs. Most of all, LaVerne loved spending time with his family and friends.
LaVerne is survived by his wife of 61 years; Carol, five children; Debbie (Allen) Hewitt of Durand, Linda (Roger) Becker of Hudson, Bryan (Pam) of Durand, Diane (John) Creaser of Menomonie, Melissa “Missy” (Steve) Berger of Durand, 17 grandchildren; Kris (Bill), LeAnn (Willy), Kerrie Jo (Troy), Shane (Jennifer), Brent, Tracey (Scott), Eric (Heather), Andy (Joleen), Heather (Chad), Joe (Jenna), Jason (Chun), Travis (Lacy), Tim, Chris, Jake and Nicole, 24 great grandchildren, two brothers; Allen (Connie) of Nelson and Benny (Jan) of Durand, two sisters; Gerry Brantner of Durand and Mary (Brad) Sie of Mondovi, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, one grandson; Jeremy Hewitt, one brother; Galen and three sisters; Margie Weisenbeck, Norma Brion and Lola Glaus.
Funeral Mass will be 11:30 AM Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Durand. Rev. Eric Linzmaier will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery Military Honors will be provided by the Durand American Legion Post #181. Visitation will be 4-8 PM Monday at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Durand and one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.
