William D "Bill" McRoberts

William D "Bill" McRoberts

William D. “Bill” McRoberts Jr., age 66 of Plum City, WI, passed away on Thursday, November 27, 2025, with his son by his side at St. Mary’s Hospital, Rochester, MN, after a brief illness. He was born June 24, 1959, in Durand, WI. The first son of the late Bill Sr. and Norma (Smith) McRoberts.

For many years, Bill worked many jobs from construction to 3M to picking oranges in Florida, but his love was his time working at, then owning, Exile Bar. Later in life health and injuries kept him out of the workforce but he never stopped doing what he could to help others.  His ability to talk with others about everything under the sun left a lasting impact on many.

Bill had many things he loved to do during his life, but his son, Christopher was his life. From the day Chris was born Bill beamed with pride for his son. Bill would take Chris everywhere with him, would coach him in any of the sports he played, taught him about life and even took Chris on vacation to Alaska, twice.

Bills first love was sports, and he played softball for almost 40 years and cheered for his Minnesota teams his whole life, especially the Vikings. Making friends the entire time with good natured ribbing and joking. He also loved fishing and family, especially if he could combine the two. And not only family, but Bill was also a mentor to Chris’s friends in Elmwood, they would spend time with Chris and Bill, and often visit Bill when Chris wasn’t home. He also enjoyed gardening, playing cards and his dogs.

The highlight of Bill’s day would be anytime he could pick on, or just spend time with, any of his nieces and nephews. He loved all of them and that loved love carried through to their children also.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his sister Debby Kimmel and niece Carey Fredrickson. Bill is survived by his son Christopher, sisters Peggy McRoberts and Joanne Hovey, brother Ed (Carmen), and brother-in-law Junior Kimmel. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. In addition, Bill is remembered by many extended family members and friends who will deeply miss him.

Visitation will be held from 4:00PM-7:00PM Friday December 5, 2025 at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Durand. A Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00PM-5:00PM Saturday  December 6, 2025 at Molly’s on Main in Plum City.

Rhiel Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Durand, is serving the family.
