Kathryn A. Wayne

Kathryn Ann Wayne

May 20, 1929 – April 22, 2024

How blessed are we to have been loved by you...

Kathryn Ann Wayne, age 94, of Menomonie, was born at the family farm in rural Buffalo County, WI on May 20th, 1929, to Rodie and Margaret (Schober) Weisenbeck, was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Durand, WI.  She attended school in Weisenbeck Valley and graduated from Nelson High School.

Kathryn met the love of her life at a local dance hall and married Roy Howard Wayne on July 19, 1947, beginning a life together for 63 years.

Their life journey took them to Durand, Downsville, Menomonie, and on vacations throughout the US and across the world.  Kathryn and Roy loved to travel and loved sharing their travel experiences with others. She often shared that they had visited 50 states and Russia, Europe, China, while paging about in her keepsake albums.  The two of them felt extraordinary pride in establishing the Dairy Queen in Durand, WI and Wayne Pallet’s Inc. Downsville, WI.

Kathryn was blessed with an amazing large family and often would quote Roy by saying “Look what we have done!”  She enjoyed hosting family gatherings and passing down her favorite recipes including her Christmas Toffee and dad’s 4-Leaf Clovers. She loved to sew for family and friends.  She watched many basketball, football, and hockey games for children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

We will miss her in our lives, in our homes, at our tables and at our gatherings, but we are all blessed to have the memories of mom in our hearts.

She was a strong and amazing woman who instilled in us to believe that you could be whatever and whomever you wanted to be.

Her lessons were about becoming the best person one could be and for most of all, she taught us not “what to be” but rather “how to be”.

Be a safe harbor

Be disciplined

Be determined

Be faithful

Be giving

Be gentle

Be honest

Be humble

Be prepared

Be true to yourself

Mom you will be deeply missed by your 11 Children,  Linda (Allen) Mans of Chippewa Falls, WI, Larry (Julie) Wayne of Downsville, WI, Nancy Hurlburt of Durand, WI, Gary (Dianne) Wayne of Lake Holcombe, WI, Bob Wayne, Terry (April) Wayne of Menomonie, WI, Mark (Cathy) Wayne of Port Washington, WI, Lisa Kitzmann of Plymouth, MN, Lori (Mark) Radke of Cottonwood, MN , Michelle (Dean) Bostrom of Farmington, MN, Jason (Jess) Wayne of Downsville, WI;  31 grandchildren, and 49 great-grandchildren.   and two sisters, Patricia Reinhardt and Esther Taylor and many close relatives.

  7. Arlene Forster (for Dennis)

    Dear Wayne Family--
"One of my favorites died" was the response from Dennis when I read him Kathryn's obituary from the Leader Telegram. He is at a nursing home in Chippewa Falls receiving physical therapy after a fall last Saturday when he broke a bone in his left hip area. He didn't brake the hip because it has been replaced. I will tell you that he feels really badly that he can't attend the wake or funeral. He was really fond of Kathryn.

Gary & Dianne, Terry & April, Nancy and all the rest of the Wayne families-
I am so sorry for your loss. Your Mom impressed me when Jason was born, we both were in a 4 bed ward at Memorial Hospital Maternity Ward. She said she had a labor pain at home, rushed to the hospital and got there just in time for a nurse to "catch"! ????
What a big, wonderful family. You are fortunate to have each other to lean on and reminisce. Savor those happy memories. My sympathy to all of you.
