Joseph A. Markham - 02-11-2010


Joseph A. Markham, age 84 of Menomonie, died Thursday, February 11, 2010 at the American Lutheran Home in Menomonie. Joe was born on December 26, 1925 on the family farm in the Town of Menomonie. He was the son of Earl and Emma (Maves) Markham. He grew up on the family farm and attended Ideal School; St. Joseph’s School and graduated from Menomonie High School. Joe began hauling milk in high school, he then farmed for a short time on the family farm. He married Eileen Stockman on May 29, 1946 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Menomonie. They made their home in the Town of Dunn where Joe has hauled milk and farmed for 47 years, retiring in 1981. Joe and Eileen liked to travel across the United States, trout fishing, cutting wood, and spending time with family and friends. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church his entire life; he was also a long time member of the Knights of Columbus, the Wally Byam Airstream Club and a lifetime member of the Menomonie Moose Lodge #1584. Joe also enjoyed going around the neighborhood in his 4-wheeler. Joe is survived by his wife of 63 years, Eileen, three children, Jerome “Jerry” of Baldwin, Sharon (Randy) Cook of Elmwood and Jeff (Gail) of Menomonie, six grandchildren, Ken Jr., Kevin and Christopher Thibado, all of Menomonie, Alex, Eric and Katie Markham, all of Menomonie, one brother Francis (Virginia) Markham of Menomonie, one sister Alice (Milt) Evenson of Menomonie, former son-in-law, Ken Thibado Sr. of Rapid City, SD., several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Florence Clickner. Funeral Services will be 10:30 AM Monday, February 15, 2010 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Menomonie. Rev. Thomas Krieg will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4-7 PM Sunday at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Menomonie and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Arrangements by the Rhiel Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Menomonie.
