Shirley A Kern

Shirley A. Kern, age 80 of Elmwood, died Sunday, March 3, 2024 at her home in Elmwood.

Shirley was born on April 14, 1943. She was the daughter of Freeman and Pearl “Mid” (Bee) Hoyt. Shirley graduated from Elmwood High School in 1961. After high school, Shirley married her high school sweetheart, David Kern on May 19, 1962 at Ono United Methodist. They started farming in rural Elmwood where they raised their family. When her children were older, Shirley took a job with the School District of Elmwood, working in the classrooms, hallways and lastly in the cafeteria. It was a job she loved until her retirement.

Shirley enjoyed her plants, crafts, going to flea markets and Halloween. Most of all, Shirley loved to spend time with family and friends.

Shirley is survived by her children, Jody Beyer of Menomonie, Josh (Stephanie) Kern and Allison (Charlie) Hovind, both of Elmwood, grandchildren, Bailey (Jenna), Terressa and Kendra, one great grandson, Quinn, brother-in-law Marvin Schroeder, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, David and sister Beverly Schroeder.

Private family services will be held.
